21. Allochthonous, adjective. Not native; having originated elsewhere. From Greek allos, “other, different,” + khthon, “land, earth.” A term used to designate aliens of all kinds in the natural sciences: rocks found remote distances from where they were formed after movements in the Earth’s crust; sediment that has traveled far by wind or water; species of introduced plants or animals not indigenous to a particular region.
I have been wearing the wrong shoes all week, and feel the ground beneath me more than otherwise. It is as if I’d walked here, all this way, from the beginning. Bone tired.
